Outsiders Motorcycles and Brekr Collaborate on Custom Electric Moped
Today’s electric motorcycle market is dominated by small-capacity commuters focused on urban mobility. However, Dutch custom workshop Outsiders Motorcycles has taken a different approach. In 2021, we highlighted the unique electric moped, the Brekr Model B, which stood out with its motorcycle-inspired design combined with the simplicity of a bicycle. Outsiders and Brekr had been in contact for several years, and Outsiders had plans to create a custom machine based on the stylish electric moped.
Outsiders first met with Brekr six years ago when the company only had an early prototype. They stayed in touch, and four years later, Brekr received a government subsidy as e-mobility gained popularity in Europe. This marked the beginning of turning the dream into reality. Outsiders arranged to pick up a Brekr Model B from Doeltichem and visited the company's workshop and headquarters.
The Brekr Model B was originally designed as an urban commuter. It is powered by a 2,500-watt electric motor, providing similar power to a 50cc four-stroke scooter. The moped features a simple construction, including a rear hub-mounted motor and in-frame battery packs. It is equipped with two batteries, each with a 2-kilowatt-hour capacity, offering a range of approximately 60 miles.
Outsiders took advantage of the moped's simplicity to showcase its capabilities. Inspired by the Honda CT50 Motra, a rugged off-road mini-bike, they added chunky tires, fat bars, and other rugged accessories to the Brekr Model B. The custom creation was showcased at Brekr Ride-Out, but the collaboration didn't end there. Outsiders had permission to use the moped for a year and took it on various adventures, including a trip through Croatia and the iconic Stelvio Pass. They even added a sidecar for carrying a dog and demonstrated the moped's ability to go on camping trips and transport multiple boxes of pizza. Outsiders collaborated with Winchester Creatives to capture fun and exciting photos of the custom moped.
After the project concluded, Outsiders Motorcycles became an official Brekr test and service center. The custom yellow Model B and the photos by Winchester Creatives are now on display at Brekr's headquarters in Doetinchem, The Netherlands.
