Ski-Doo Safety Recall Announcement

On January 31, 2024, Ski-Doo issued a voluntary safety recall for certain 2024 Ski-Doo MXZ and Renegade snowmobiles that were equipped with Pilot X skis from the factory. The recall was initiated due to a potential issue with the left ski breaking, which was caused by defective skis produced in the molding process by Ski-Doo's supplier, mold cavity AC2.

Owners of snowmobiles with affected left skis are at risk of losing control and facing possible injury or death. Therefore, Ski-Doo's parent company, Bombardier Recreational Products, advises owners not to ride the affected snowmobiles until the recall service is performed. The recall service will be provided at no cost to the customer.

Ski-Doo has notified registered owners of the affected snowmobiles via letters and posted an announcement on its official website on January 31, 2024. Transport Canada announced the recall on January 26, 2024, while the US CPSC announced it on February 29, 2024.

It is estimated that approximately 8,100 snowmobiles in the US and 5,555 in Canada are impacted by this recall.

As of February 29, 2024, the US CPSC has received 27 reports of the left ski breaking on affected snowmobiles in use by owners, with no reported injuries. There has been one incident in Canada resulting in an injury, according to the US CPSC.

The recall number for Transport Canada is 2024-045, and for the US CPSC, it is 24-140.

Owners of affected Ski-Doo snowmobiles are advised to contact their local authorized Ski-Doo dealer to schedule the recall service. BRP recommends that owners refrain from riding their affected snowmobiles until after the recall service is completed.

BRP mentions that a limited number of parts are currently available, but more parts will be supplied in the upcoming weeks to address the recall.
