Honda Safety Recall

American Honda Safety Recall

On February 15, 2024, American Honda issued a safety recall on certain models due to a potentially faulty fuel pump. The affected models include 2017 through 2024 Gold Wings, 2018 through 2020 CBR600RRs, and 2018 through 2019 CBR1000RRs. The issue stems from an improperly molded fuel pump that could become inoperative over time, leading to engine stalling or failure to start, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

Approximately 17,374 bikes are estimated to be involved in this recall, representing about one percent of the affected population. The faulty fuel pumps were produced within a specific time range and used a parts batch that was improperly molded.

Honda's paperwork filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describes the issue as an improperly molded fuel pump impeller that can deform when exposed to fuel, potentially rendering the entire pump assembly inoperative.

Possible warning signs of this issue include intermittent power loss, stalling, or difficulty starting the motorcycle. The affected fuel pump was supplied by Denso International America.

As of February 8, 2024, Honda has received 142 warranty claims related to this issue, with no reports of injuries or deaths between August 2018 and December 28, 2023.

A Stop Sale notice is in effect for certain models, and dealers have been instructed not to sell any affected bikes until the recall service to replace the fuel pump has been performed.

Under the safety recall, authorized Honda dealers will inspect and replace fuel pump assemblies free of charge. Notification letters will be mailed to registered owners around April 8, 2024.

Owners can contact their local authorized Honda dealers to arrange for the recall service to be performed on their bikes.
